Due to the increase in steel costs and lead times, there are projects that are switching from all steel to all concrete. Typical construction would be warehouses or office complexes that have steel beams and steel bar joist and decking roof with tilt-up or precast insulated wall panels on the exterior. Now, these projects are switching to precast walls, columns, and roofs for an entire concrete building. However, the pandemic has led the entire construction industry into a bout of turmoil by introducing site restrictions and significantly reducing the supply of materials. Also, organizations today need to follow OSHA’s occupational exposure risk pyramid, which makes the construction even slower. To this end, modular construction promises a feasible way forward. It speeds up construction, as all products are produced in a controlled factory and have an extensive quality control plan to ensure the pieces delivered to the site are of the highest quality.

Enter Jersey Precast.

Founded in 1980, Jersey Precast has more than four decades of experience in providing quality precast and pre-stressed concrete products to the Tri-state and surrounding areas. The company offers various solutions, including bridge decks, train station platforms, segmental bridges, parking garages, box beams, concrete piles and piers, barrier, insulated wall panels, and the list goes on. “We have the capacity to build both small and large multi-million dollar projects and our in-house trucking fleet allows us to control costs for both us and our customers,” says George Hand II, the GM of Operations at Jersey Precast.

The Jersey Precast plant in Hamilton, NJ, has approximately 230,000 square feet of manufacturing space under one roof with overhead cranes with a lifting capacity up to 100 tons where precast units weighing up to 40 tons are routinely handled. The company’s indoor manufacturing facility affords them the ability to produce year-round without weather-related interruptions. This offers tremendous value for larger and time-sensitive projects. Further, Jersey Precast’s fabrication facilities are backed up by a strong engineering department comprised of engineers and AUTOCAD operators, and partnership with industry specific precast engineer firms. “All engineering and shop drawings are performed in-house enabling us to provide significant support to designers and resolve any design related issues immediately. We ensure that every production is as per our Precast Concrete Institute (PCI) approved Quality Control (QC) manual & plan and is monitored by our QC department,” mentions George.

What differentiates Jersey Precast even further is its corporate philosophy of customer satisfaction and employee empowerment. In an instance, Jersey Precast formulated the fabrication of match-cast modular elevator and stair core walls. These pieces were fabricated and transported to New York City. From there, the pieces were erected in a vertical manner to create the core walls as intended. This allowed the project to save many months of forming and pouring these on-site and a seamless installation within tight tolerances. The project team has been trucking panels from New Jersey to Manhattan and assembled the core in the late spring. It has also started erecting the concrete on the metal deck, top out the building and install the exterior.

Such has been the success that Jersey Precast has been endowing over the years by helping many prestigious clients. George mentions that the main reason behind their success is the people. He explains, “Every employee is a part of the family and the relationship is built on mutual respect and trust. We work together to ensure each other’s safety. We take pride in who we are and what we do.”

Backed by such a team, Jersey Precast is currently going through expansion and investing in automation to further improve its processes. “We are not afraid to take on new challenges and be on the leading edge of new construction techniques, and will continue to review the market and our future,” concludes George.
